Defend Liberty, Draft Judge Napolitano For President In 2016
The Ship of State is listing badly to port, and Judge Andrew Napolitano is the star to steer her by.
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.
~ John Masefield
Draft the Judge, He Tells The TruthAlthough Ron Paul has yet to be specific about what’s next for him, it is highly unlikely he will run for president again. So then, what’s next for the Liberty Movement now that it won’t have presidential candidate Ron Paul to hug anymore?
Revolution PAC’s maxim is, “Beyond The Man Is The Movement.” But in politics, every movement must have a captain at the helm or it becomes rudderless. Right now, the Liberty Movement is without a skipper and essentially adrift without Ron Paul’s firm hand on the tiller, which makes it ripe for a hostile takeover by the Republican political establishment. Don’t forget V.I. Lenin’s dictum, “The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves.”
The Liberty Movement does not require a visionary helmsman to run recklessly before the wind in delusory hope of arriving early to presidential port in 2016. It must lead the country, which means not only being ahead of the country but also having the patience and perspicacity to wait upon the country to follow it—all in good time.
The Movement that Ron Paul built lacks only a true and steady successor to hoist sails and steer it on its way, plugging his ears to the siren song of the Republican Establishment that would lure him onto the shoals of partisan accommodation. The Liberty movement cannot afford to run its own libertarian version of Mitt Romney or the Georges Bush in the false hope of an early, Pyrrhic victory. That is not to say the right Liberty candidate could not win the presidency in 2016, he may; it is to say, if he cannot win in 2016 without compromising on principle, it is because the winds are not yet favorable for a true Liberty candidate to reach the White House before 2020. The next Liberty-Movement candidate, therefore, must be prepared to give the run his all, fight like a tiger to the end but also be willing, if necessary, to accept a strategic defeat to position the movement to win the next time around. This will require a long-term investment, both by the candidate and by his backers.
This is why Revolution PAC intends to organize a grass-roots campaign to draft Judge Andrew Napolitano as the Liberty Movement's new helmsman, a man who really could win on principle in 2016 and who everyone in the Movement, and many people outside it, can rally round enthusiastically.
Next week, Revolution PAC will announce the formation of a committee to draft Napolitano—the person Ron Paul said he would choose as his running mate—to pick up Ron Paul’s mantle and run as a Republican in 2016 for President of the United States. The Committee will launch its Draft-The-Judge Campaign with a nation-wide petition drive gathering signatures to demonstrate a groundswell of support for Judge Napolitano’s candidacy.
There is no other person in the country as respected and popular within the Liberty Movement as Andrew Napolitano, a former jurist, constitutional scholar, New York Times best-selling author and TV celebrity. There is no other person in the Movement with the gravitas and name recognition outside the Movement that Napolitano possesses or who is as capable of reaching outside the confines of the Movement to inspire and capture the hearts and minds of Americans from every corner of life. There is no other person in or out of the Liberty Movement more articulate than Napolitano to carry forward the campaign for liberty with a revolutionary spirit as Ron Paul admonishes.
Successful presidential drafts are rare but not unheard of. The two most successful modern efforts to draft candidates for the presidency both occurred in the 1952 campaign. There had been an effort within both political parties to draft five-star general Dwight D. Eisenhower to run as a candidate for President as early as 1948 and then again in 1951. Eisenhower studiously ignored both efforts. He was, however, finally compelled to pay attention after Henry Cabot Lodge entered him in the 1952 New Hampshire Republican primary without the general's authorization. Eisenhower won the entire slate of Republican delegates in the New Hampshire primary without even campaigning. After the votes were in, Eisenhower told a reporter, “Any American who would have that many other Americans pay him that compliment would be proud or he would not be an American.” Ike announced his candidacy for the presidency the next day. Having failed to capture Eisenhower as their own, the Democrats proceeded to draft Adlai Stevenson to run against him.
No one affiliated with Revolution PAC has discussed this matter with the Judge. He has not authorized the effort or even hinted that he might be interested in running for president. In fact, he recently said “probably not” when asked if he would run. He may say no or try to ignore the effort to draft him, as Eisenhower did. That will not deter Revolution PAC from continuing with its campaign to draft the Judge until it has generated such popular support for a Napolitano candidacy that the Judge, like the General before him, will feel compelled to answer the people’s call to duty.
Judge Napolitano initially may ignore the Liberty Movement’s call to run, and the Movement will say, “Run Judge, run.” He may say “No,” and the Movement will say, “Yes Judge, run.” He may resist again, and the people will say, “Read our lips Judge, run; no other candidate will do.”
In addition to gathering signatures urging Judge Napolitano to run, Revolution PAC also intends to start building a campaign war chest and mobilizing ground troops to make sure Napolitano is positioned to get on the ballot in every state when he accepts the Liberty Movement’s mandate to run.
The best thing about Judge Andrew Napolitano as a candidate for president is that he, like Ron Paul, will always tell the truth, no matter what, so help him God. No obfuscation, no weasel words, no mumbo jumbo and gobbledygook, no pandering to the Establishment—just the truth, the plain truth and nothing but the truth.
The Ship of State is listing badly, and Judge Andrew Napolitano is the star to steer her by. Defend Liberty. Draft the Judge.
