Revolution Pac Demands Virginia Prosecute Brandon Raub's Kidnappers

Washington, DC—In a letter released today signed by some of its supporters, Revolution Pac scolds Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for allowing Virginia state and local law-enforcement personnel and court officials to participate in the criminal assault and kidnapping of former marine Brandon J. Raub because of Facebook postings he made that were critical of the government.  The letter, addressed to Attorney General Cuccinelli, says the Virginia AG should be ashamed of himself for allowing these criminal acts to occur under the color of law on his watch and demands that he not give the government officials involved immunity from prosecution by sheltering them behind a shield of “sovereign immunity.” It goes on to call upon Cuccinelli to apologize to Mr. Raub and the people of Virginia and to give his personal assurances that these incidents will not be swept under the rug and that he will not rest until all the details of these reprehensible incidents are exposed to the light of day and all those people involved, including magistrates and special justices, are brought to justice.

“We the undersigned do hereby demand that you prosecute for kidnapping and criminal assault all public officials, local state and federal, involved in the unlawful arrest, detention and involuntary commitment of Brandon J. Raub between August 16 and August 23, 2012.  Neither the Commonwealth of Virginia nor the United States Government put forth any allegation or legal basis for arresting or detaining Mr. Raub yet they unlawfully held him in custody and forcibly committed him for involuntary mental evaluation.  The Commonwealth of Virginia and some of its legal sub-jurisdictions actively participated in a well-coordinated criminal conspiracy with federal officials to kidnap, detain and spirit Mr. Raub into a psychiatric ward against his will, all criminal acts and in direct violation of Mr. Raub’s constitutional rights.  These horrific actions are reminiscent of the old Soviet Union and so contemptible that Mr. Jefferson must be turning in his grave.”

As the chief law-enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of Virginia, you are compelled to investigate and bring to justice all individuals involved in these criminal acts.  Moreover, because it is unambiguously clear that these actions were taken as the direct result of an organized criminal conspiracy among Virginia and federal officials, you also are obliged to bring racketeering charges against all the people involved in the incidents under the “Virginia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act.”

Finally, these incidents and this conspiracy between Virginia and federal officials are so outrageous and contrary to the precepts of American and Virginian justice that we demand that you release to the public all communications related to the incidents that occurred among Virginia agencies and personnel, both among themselves and with federal officials.

Mr. Attorney General, you must not put Virginia and federal officials above the law by exempting them from responsibility under any abstract claim of so-called “sovereign immunity.”  In America, all people are created equal under the law, including local, state and federal officials, and all must be held to account equally before the law.

These actions have appalled and embarrassed the people of Virginia in the eyes of the world.  You should be ashamed of yourself for allowing this to happen on your watch, or heaven forefend, for participating in them yourself. The law enforcement personnel of Virginia who participated in these events and you, who are responsible for their actions, owe apologies to Mr. Raub, the people of Virginia and the people of the United States of America whom you have grossly offended and egregiously harmed.  In addition, you owe to Mr. Raub and the people your personal assurances that these incidents will not be swept under the rug and that you will not rest until all the details of these reprehensible incidents are exposed to the light of day and all those people involved, including magistrates and special justices, are brought to justice.
