This is the cause of liberty

In Ron Paul’s August 26, 2012 address to his supporters in Tampa Bay, Florida, he challenged the Liberty Movement to replace the old, 20th-century era of death, destruction and ever-expanding government with a new era of liberty, freedom, property and peace:

“Promote the cause of liberty in a revolutionary spirit. Aim high; be idealistic; use reason; have passion.  The basic rule that drives our whole philosophy is the rejection of violence:  You don’t kill people; you don’t take their property; you tolerate other people; freedom should bring us together, it should never be divisive. . .This is the cause of liberty.”

Dear Liberty Activist:

Hello, my name is Larry Hunter, and I am the new chairman of Revolution PAC, or as I’ve taken to calling it, Revolution Pac Reloaded.  I have come on board as chairman to “promote the cause of liberty in a revolutionary spirit,” as Ron Paul admonishes us to do, and to help re-launch this hybrid super PAC to carry the fight for liberty beyond just campaigns and elections into the post-Ron-Paul-candidacy era.  As our new motto puts it:  “Beyond the Man Is The Movement.”

Although none of us really expects Ron to withdraw from the political fray entirely after he retires from the Congress, it appears that his days as a candidate are over, and it is, therefore, an appropriate time to consider where the Liberty Movement in general and Revolution PAC in particular go from here.  Or, as Liberty Movement people are asking themselves and each other everyday, “What’s Next?”

Revolution PAC seeks to become not only “What’s-Next Central”—providing not just a discussion forum and networking resource for liberty activists—but also “Action Central,” where liberty activists can find something tangible to do each day to promote liberty and hold the established Republocrat political duopoly accountable for their actions—whether it be helping Liberty Candidates get elected, lobbying Congress to enact Liberty Legislation, holding the political parties accountable for anything approaching a Liberty Plank in their party platforms, or undertaking Direct Liberty Activism such as the political-action campaign I discuss below  with respect to Brandon J. Raub, who was kidnapped and “disappeared” into the Virginia psychiatric gulag by the national-security state within the United States.

Revolution PAC will not attempt to control or direct the Liberty Movement; we couldn’t even if we wanted to.  As Alan Stevo wrote recently at LewRockwell.com, the Ron Paul Revolution is not over; it is ready for the next chapter:  “The Ron Paul Revolution has already grown so large as to be unquantifiable”—

—to which I would add, “uncontrollable.”  And, that thought should both inspire Liberty Activists and put the fear of God into the Establishment because we are here to stay; we are here to advance the cause of liberty each and everyday in every way; we intend to ridicule and delegitimize the tyrannical state and its functionaries; and we are going to keep the pressure on the established Republocrat duopoly until liberty, peace and prosperity are restored to America.  We will not bureaucratize, be co-opted or go mainstream (the Liberty Movement will become the mainstream), and with your help, the Liberty Movement will not fail.  As Ron Paul said when he scolded the Republican Party for trying to shut him and the Liberty Movement out of the tent:  “We will become the tent; we are the future.”

We envision our job at Revolution Pac to keep the flame of liberty burning and the Liberty Movement growing.  To that end, we are in the process of recruiting a Libertarian Advisory Board for Revolution PAC, which will consist of people you as a Liberty Activist will recognize and respect.  We will announce the membership of that Board in the near future.

Direct Liberty Activism

We had planned to re-launch Revolution PAC after the November elections, which we thought would be a natural new-beginning point for the Liberty Movement.  But, as John Lennon said, “Life is what happens when you are busy planning other things.”  On August 16, life got in the way of our best-laid, re-launch plans.  On that day, former Marine Brandon Raub was kidnapped, assaulted and unceremoniously “disappeared” into the Virginia psychiatric gulag by a joint Federal-Virginia strike force for making Facebook postings that were critical of the government, on a private Facebook page, to boot.  And then life got in the way again a week later with the Republican Party’s disgraceful treatment of Ron Paul and his supporters at the Republican Convention. We simply could not remain silent in the face of these assaults on individual liberty and the Liberty Movement.

Even though the Raub case was not part of our re-launch plan, this disturbing violation of Mr. Raub’s person and the blatant infringement of his individual rights was a clarion call to action; re-launch plans be damned; we had to do something.  This kind of lawless, indeed criminal behavior by a government conspiracy at all levels is precisely what Ron Paul has warned us about for decades.  Unless we do something about it now, we may lose our liberty for the remainder of our lives. 

That is why Revolution PAC has launched a petition drive and letter-writing campaign to the Virginia Attorney General demanding that he not sweep this horror under the rug by attempting to shield any of the government officials involved in the Raub terror behind claims of sovereign immunity.  We demand that the Virginia AG prosecute all those people involved in these criminal acts against Mr. Raub, indeed prosecute them under Virginia’s RICO law as well as under the Commonwealth’s kidnapping and aggravated assault statutes, since there was a clear criminal conspiracy among local, state and federal “law-enforcement” personnel and judicial officials and mental health professionals to do unjustified violence against Mr. Raub and violate his individual rights. We recently sent letters to both the Hopewell, VA Circuit Court Judge and the Chesterfield County Commonwealth Attorney demanding the convening of a Special Grand Jury as provided for under the Code of Virginia and prosecution of the government agents and officials involved in the Raub incidents.

I wrote about the Attorney General’s obligation to prosecute these crimes in my weekly Forbes column right after the incident occurred, which also was re-posted at LewRockwell.com.  Since then, we managed to send the story global when the UK’s Guardian picked it up from our press release and reported on Revolution PAC’s activities. We also have filed Freedom of Information Act (FIOA) requests in the Raub case (which I wrote about in my most recent Forbes column).  We also are making plans to work with a 501(c)(3) organization to raise money to build a legal-defense fund that could be used to help defend other “disappeared” victims, which is now becoming commonplace across the country as local, state and federal officials conspire to misuse already dodgy state civil-commitment laws to “disappear” people, especially veterans, who are critical of governments’ thuggish ways and Gestapo tactics.

We believe the Raub case provides a good template, which can be modified and refined for additional Direct Liberty Activism that Revolution PAC can undertake in the future.

Campaigns and Elections—Liberty Candidates

On the campaigns-and-elections front, let me tell you a bit about how we intend to proceed to identify, vet and support Liberty Candidates for office.  First, we will invite any candidate for any public office in the land to apply for Revolution PAC certification as a genuine Liberty Candidate.  All candidates seeking Revolution PAC’s certification as a Liberty Candidate and hoping to have Revolution PAC support their candidacy financially will be required first to sign a Liberty Pledge based on the Non-Aggression Principle.  Second, we are in the process of establishing a Liberty Litmus Test, which will be developed in close consultation with the Revolution PAC Advisory Board, that all candidates seeking to become a Liberty Candidate will be required to take.  Only those candidates scoring sufficiently high on the Liberty Litmus Test will receive Revolution PAC’s endorsement as a Certified Liberty Candidate.  Moreover, any financial support provided by Revolution PAC to Liberty Candidates will be calibrated on the basis of how high they score on the Liberty Litmus Test.

Presidential Politics. Frankly, we had not intended to promote any single candidate for president in 2016 at this time, believing such a candidate would emerge naturally in due course.  However, in the aftermath of the recent election, it has become clear that the Liberty Movement cannot allow a vacuum to develop in the current environment.  As I have said since I took over at Revolution PAC, "beyond the man is the movement." But it is just as true that every movement must have a captain at the helm or it becomes rudderless. Right now, the Liberty Movement is without a skipper and essentially adrift without Ron Paul's firm hand on the tiller, which makes it ripe for a hostile takeover by the Republican political establishment. Don't forget V.I. Lenin's dictum, "The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves."

The Liberty Movement does not require a visionary helmsman to run recklessly before the wind in delusory hope of arriving early to presidential port in 2016. It must lead the country, which means not only being ahead of the country but also having the patience and perspicacity to wait upon the country to follow. For this reason, we have created a committee to draft Judge Andrew Napolitano to run as a Republican for president in 2016. Napolitano is the one person Ron Paul said he would choose as his running mate, and The Judge is perhaps the only candidate from within the Liberty Movement whom everyone in the Movement could rally round enthusiastically and who really could win the presidency on principle in 2016.  That's why we need you to join our nation-wide petition drive to gather enough signatures to demonstrate a groundswell of support for Judge Napolitano's candidacy.
 

Liberty Legislation

Revolution PAC also intends to identify short lists of proposed legislation and ballot initiatives we will back actively in the Congress and in state legislatures.  If bills/initiatives worthy of the moniker “Liberty Legislation” and “Liberty Initiative” already have been introduced, we will actively support them in the legislative and electoral arenas.  In some cases, however, no adequate bill or initiative may exist on an important subject, in which case Revolution PAC will consider drafting a bill or initiative and working to find legislators and citizens’ groups willing to introduce the bills and initiatives as their own.

Liberty Planks

Revolution PAC will scour both political parties’ platforms in search of anything that might pass muster as a genuine Liberty Plank.  If and when we identify Liberty Planks, we will work to hold the parties accountable to those Liberty Planks, and we will demand that serious efforts be made to translate those platform planks into policy or be dropped from the platform. This process is just beginning.

As Revolution PAC proceeds with its re-launch, I will be back in touch, keeping you up to date and asking for your ideas, advice and counsel as we go forward.  In the meantime, please sign our petition and letter to Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli with respect to Brandon Raub, sign our petition to Draft The Judge to run for president, and let me hear from you on how to make Revolution PAC Reloaded an effective fighting machine for liberty in the spirit of Ron Paul who urged us all to “promote the cause of liberty in a revolutionary spirit.”
